Problem
Over 18 months, I worked as part of a UX team on a major government project to modernise outdated digital tools for a well-known organisation. Due to NDA restrictions, specific details and visuals can’t be shared.
Challenge
We created the organisation’s first design system—intended for use across future software projects. Using atomic design principles (atoms, molecules, organisms), we built templates and pages within agile sprints. I collaborated with two UX strategists, contributing to the system’s development while also working on user flows, wireframes, testing, and hi-fidelity designs.
Solution
We used Material Design 3, which posed challenges due to limited components and its mobile-first orientation. Integration with Angular required custom solutions, as MD3 was not yet fully supported for developers.
Results
This was my first large-scale design system project—a steep but valuable learning curve. It deepened my skills in Figma and Material Design 3. The system is set to launch in 2025.
